Alerts related to attendance require that employees be assigned to specific shifts to function accurately.

An employee's shift is designated by the Shift menu on the employee's profile. Available shifts are determined by what has been defined on the Shift Management page in portal Settings.

This article explains how to create and modify available shifts in portal Settings. To assign an employee to a shift, see Assign an Employee to a Shift.

Add a new shift

1) Select Settings in the navigation menu at the top and then select the Shift Management option on the left

2) Click the Select Shift dropdown menu and choose Add New

3) Enter a name for the shift. Shift Name will display on employee timecards.

4) By default, new shifts are created with all days of the week active. To remove a day from the shift, unmark the checkbox in the Active field.

5) Enter the desired start, end, and lunch times in the entry spaces. Be careful to enter AM/PM correctly.

If a shift will end on a different day of the week than it started (example: 11:00PM-7:00AM night shift), use the dropdown menus to select the applicable day. This also applies to lunch timing.

If a shift will cross midnight, a value must be entered in the BDO Minutes field. Click here to learn how!

6) Click the Save button to create the shift

The shift will now be available to assign to employees on their profile.

Edit an existing shift

1) Select Settings in the navigation menu at the top and then select the Shift Management option on the left

2) Click the Select Shift dropdown menu and choose the shift you want to modify

3) Make your changes

4) Click the Update button to save your changes

5) A pop-up message will display. Click the Update button to confirm your changes or click the close button (x) in the upper right to cancel. Timecards will recalculate when the shift is updated.

Deactivate a shift

If a shift will no longer be used, it can be made inactive so that it is not available to assign to employees on their profile. If a shift is attached to any previous timecard data, it cannot be deleted but it can be deactivated.

1) Select Settings in the navigation menu at the top and then select the Shift Management option on the left

2) Click the Select Shift dropdown menu and choose the shift you want to make inactive

3) Unmark the Active checkbox

4) Click the Update button to save your change

5) A pop-up message will display. Click the Update button to confirm your changes or click the close button (x) in the upper right to cancel. Timecards will recalculate when the shift is deactivated.

6) Inactive shift(s) will appear with an asterisk (*) in the Select Shift dropdown menu
